ALHAMBRA

ARE YOU HOUSE SHOPPING IN ALHAMBRA, CALIFORNIA?

Many people think of Alhambra as a city of early-20th century homes. But given its close proximity to two-thirds of California’s largest 100 corporations, it’s also a smart place to live for people with careers.

Homebuyers can choose from a mix of home styles in Alhambra. This town was founded in 1903 as a Los Angeles suburb – now 8 miles from downtown LA – with houses in Arts & Crafts, Bungalow, Craftsman, Italian Beaux-Arts, Spanish Colonial and Spanish Mediterranean designs. Many of the original homes are preserved and occupied in key historic neighborhoods (Bean Tract, Midwick Tract, Airport Tract and Emery Park).

But Alhambra is resolutely modern and welcoming to younger individuals and families, with new condominiums in mixed-use downtown developments. The average median age of Alhambra residents is 39.3, and the median household income as of 2009 was $52,075/year. The median home values in 2013 was $529,000 for single-family homes and $375,000 for condominiums, but some residences sell for more than $1 million.

Alhambra is also a town where you would never lack for something to do: Within a 15 miles radius there are 191 movie theaters, 12,359 restaurants, 659 bars, 300 golf courses, 208 libraries and 7 ski resorts. Within 30 miles you will find 16 museums of international standing. The Mosaic on Main is the downtown shopping, café and entertainment district, while the Valley Boulevard and Fremont Avenue corridors can satisfy other whims for retail therapy.

The Alhambra Unified School District also includes students from Monterey Park, Rosemead and San Gabriel. There are several private and parochial schools here as well.
